Godaddy DNS Setup Solution
November 07, 2018Hi Silvrbackers,
As a couple of you have noted (and thanks for the heads up), Godaddy has changed how it works with the root domain such as yourdomain.com/article-url. This now results in an "Unknown Destination" notice.
What we need is it to go to a www.yourdomain.com/article-url, which would arrive at the correct address.
Since Silvrback uses a dynamic address configuration, subscriber email notification short links and search result links go nowhere.
After seeking a solution from Godaddy (no such luck) and our host Heroku, which advised users to dump Godaddy for such, uh, stuff, we had to create another solution.
For now, if you use Godaddy, AND you have the issues described above (seems to affect new setups more than existing ones, though not sure of this), please make the following changes to your DNS setup.
Log into your Godaddy account and go to the DNS screen and do the following:
1) If you have created a forwarding setting, please remove it.
2) Then, click Add/Edit A Record and set up according to the image below, and save.
If you can't quite read the IP address, here it is: 35.175.216.231
3) Leave the CNAME record as is.
Save settings and let it work its way through the system. Could take as little as a couple of minutes to an hour or two.
This should get to the end result we seek here.
Thanks for writing with us!
